What are dental implants?

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots, typically made from titanium, that are placed into your jawbone to support replacement teeth or bridges. They provide a stable and durable foundation for fixed (permanent) or removable dental prosthetics that are made to match your natural teeth.

Who is a good candidate for dental implants?

Most adults in good general health and with sufficient jawbone to support implants are candidates for dental implants. Good candidates should also have healthy gums and be free from conditions that impair bone healing. Our team at Fixed Dental will evaluate your specific needs through a detailed consultation.

Are dental implants painful?

While the procedure involves surgery, most patients report that the discomfort is less than they expected, and it can be easily managed with over-the-counter or prescription pain relievers. We also offer various forms of sedation to make the procedure as comfortable as possible.

How long does the dental implant process take?

The length of the process can vary depending on the number of implants, the specific conditions of your oral health, and whether any preparatory procedures such as bone grafting are needed. Generally, the process can take from several months to over a year, including healing and bone integration times.

What is the success rate of dental implants?

Dental implants have a high success rate, generally above 95%. Success depends on several factors, including the health of the patient, the quality and quantity of bone, the expertise of the dental surgeon, and post-operative care.

How do I care for my dental implants?

Dental implants require the same care as your natural teeth, including brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and regular dental check-ups. While implants are not susceptible to decay like natural teeth, the health of the surrounding gums is vital to maintaining lasting implant success.

How much do dental implants cost?

The cost of dental implants can vary significantly based on the specifics of your case, such as the number of implants needed and any additional procedures. At Fixed Dental, we provide detailed pricing information upfront and can assist with insurance claims and financing options to manage the cost of treatment.

Can dental implants fail?

While it is rare, implants can fail due to factors such as infection, insufficient bone mass, or excessive stress placed on the implant. Smoking can also increase the risk of implant failure. Regular follow-ups with your dentist and proper oral hygiene can help ensure the longevity of your implants.

Will my dental implants look natural?

Yes, the top priority in designing dental implants is to match them closely with your natural teeth in terms of color, shape, and size. The result is a natural-looking smile that enhances your overall facial aesthetics.

Do I need a dental implant for each missing tooth?

No, it is not necessary to have one implant per missing tooth. Some strategies involve using fewer implants to support multiple teeth if the conditions are favorable. For example, an implant-supported bridge or the All-On-4 technique can replace several teeth or even a full arch with just four implants.

Frequently Asked Questions - Same Day Permanent Teeth

What are Same Day FIXED Teeth?

Same Day FIXED Teeth is a revolutionary procedure that allows us to permanently secure new teeth (no dentures) to dental implants for an upper, lower, or both arches all in a SINGLE VISIT! Rather than placing one dental implant per missing tooth, we can replace a full set of teeth with as few as four dental implants per jaw. This treatment is ideal for people who need one arch (upper or lower) or all their teeth replaced. Whether you have no teeth or need the remaining teeth replaced, this is the most secure and natural-feeling tooth replacement option available.

Other common names are: All on 4, Full Mouth Implants, Permanent Implant Bridge, Permanent Implant Teeth

Is it really possible to have teeth extracted, dental implants placed, and new teeth attached to the dental implants all in one day?

Yes! Unlike other dental implant options, which can take six months or even years to complete, the Same Day FIXED Teeth procedure allows us to attach a new set of teeth to the dental implants in one day. Reducing costs, healing time, and the need for additional surgeries makes Same Day permanent FIXED Teeth a great value.

How long does the Same Day FIXED Teeth process take from start to finish?

Our doctors and in-house lab can complete your entire procedure in one day. This includes having an initial set of permanent teeth securely attached to your implants on the day of surgery. You will wear your initial set of permanent teeth for 4-6 months before receiving your final permanent teeth. During this time, expect to see your doctor periodically for check-ups and minor adjustments. This will allow your body and dental implants to fully heal so that your final permanent teeth have the best long term fit. Our experienced team will work with you to help design your final teeth to reflect the perfect smile you have always dreamed of.

Why is it called Same Day FIXED Teeth when I don’t get my permanent teeth until 6 months after the procedure?

Same Day FIXED Teeth has this name because an initial set of permanent teeth is secured to your implants on the day of surgery. Since there is a healing phase for your mouth and implants, it is best to start with an initial set of permanent teeth and have a final set of permanent teeth made after the healing is complete. At Fixed Dental, we don’t charge extra for this heightened level of care. This ensures you get the best long-term outcome.

What about out of town or out of country dental offices that offer final teeth in a day?

While this can be a good option for some patients, serious disadvantages cannot be overlooked.

What if you want to change the look of the teeth after healing (size, shape, or color)? What if the teeth need to be repositioned for optimal comfort? When a provider gives you final permanent teeth 24-hours after surgery, you are stuck without having an opportunity to evaluate the teeth. Also, additional fees could apply if you want to make changes later on at these offices.

At Fixed Dental, we believe a better approach is having an initial set of permanent teeth for you and your doctor to evaluate so that any necessary changes can be made in your final permanent teeth after healing.

An initial set of permanent teeth allows your gums and dental implants to completely heal before making your final permanent teeth. This is important so that your final permanent teeth fit precisely to your healed gums and can account for any gum shrinkage that occurs naturally with healing. This will minimize food packing and give you the best long term success with your new permanent teeth.

Even offices that advertise final permanent teeth within 24-hours still require additional work to account for the healing that naturally occurs. Often, this is in the form of relines (patchwork) to your final permanent teeth. This reline material is different from your final teeth material, so it is more prone to trapping bacteria and causing inflammation that can lead to dental implant failure. Our office doesn’t believe in patchwork and takes the time to ensure our patients get the best results.

What if I was told I wasn’t a candidate for dental implants before?

We help patients every day who have been told they are not candidates for dental implants at other dental offices. Due to the advanced training of our doctors and advancements in dental implant techniques, the Same Day FIXED Teeth procedure has changed the lives of those who were previously not candidates for dental implants or required extensive and costly bone grafting. To find out if you are a candidate for Same Day FIXED Teeth, schedule your FREE consultation today.

I have been wearing dentures for years, can I still be a candidate for Same Day Permanent Teeth?

Yes! We have helped countless patients currently wearing dentures who want more confidence with their teeth. Denture patients can even save money over time by not having to pay for new dentures, denture relines, and adhesives. Even with advanced bone loss, we can provide Same Day FIXED Teeth without extensive and costly bone grafting.

How many implants do I need for Same Day Permanent Teeth?

The Same Day FIXED Teeth procedure uses at least four dental implants to secure an entire set of teeth. If additional implants are recommended and placed, there will be NO extra cost to our patients. Most cases are completed with 4 to 6 implants.

What are zygomatic and pterygoid implants?

Zygomatic (cheekbone) and pterygoid dental implants allow us to provide adequate support for Same Day FIXED Teeth in cases of significant bone loss. If the upper back teeth have been missing for an extended period of time, the bone to support a dental implant is often missing. Zygomatic and pterygoid dental implants avoid the need for extensive and costly bone grafting.

How long do Same Day FIXED Teeth dental implants last?

Dental implants can last decades or a lifetime with proper care and maintenance. Dental implants do not get cavities, but they can get gum disease, just like natural teeth, if not properly maintained. It is important to clean your dental implants multiple times a day and have regular dental visits.

Will the teeth always be attached to the dental implants the day of surgery?

Most patients (99.8%) will have their new teeth attached to the implants on the day of surgery. We do our best to predict this before the procedure is performed utilizing state of the art Cone Beam CT technology. However, if the dental implants do not achieve enough stability due to poor jaw bone quality, either pterygoid and/or cheekbone (zygomatic) implants can be utilized, or a traditional denture can be worn while the dental implants heal and become stable (4-6 months).

Are the Same Day FIXED Teeth removable?

No, they are securely attached to your dental implants. Only your dentist can remove them. Regain your confidence so you can smile, speak, eat, and laugh with those you love without the fear of your teeth coming out.

Do Same Day FIXED Teeth move or rock?

No, Same Day FIXED Teeth are rigidly secured to your dental implants from day one.

Can I taste my foods better with Same Day Permanent Teeth?

Yes! One of the benefits of Same Day FIXED Teeth is that it doesn’t cover the palate (roof of your mouth) like a denture does. You can chew and taste your foods just as you would with natural teeth.

Do Same Day FIXED Teeth look real?

Yes! Dr. Kimmel will take his time to get to know each patient and what they want their ideal smile to look like. Your doctor will work hand in hand with our in-house dental laboratory technicians to design a beautiful, natural looking smile.

What do Same Day FIXED Teeth feel like in my mouth?

Patients who choose the Same Day FIXED Teeth procedure get a smile that looks and functions similar to natural teeth. In some cases, your new teeth may feel a little different at first because it is something new in your mouth. The initial Fixed teeth may feel a little bigger compared to the final teeth to maximize strength during the healing phase. Your final teeth are typically thinner because they are made from stronger materials.

Is Same Day FIXED Teeth comfortable?

Patients who choose the Same Day FIXED Teeth procedure get a smile that looks and functions similar to natural teeth. You will enjoy complete comfort because the teeth do not push on your gums or cover the roof of your mouth.

Do you use mini dental implants?

No. Mini dental implants are not recommended for Same Day Permanent Teeth. Mini dental implants do not have the long term success rates of full size dental implants. Please be careful if this is recommended to you.

I already have one or more dental implants, can you use them for the Same Day Permanent Teeth procedure?

Unfortunately, in most situations, we will likely need to remove existing dental implants and reposition them into more favorable positions for long term success. We would be happy to evaluate any existing implants at your free consultation and use them if possible.

Can I be put to sleep for the Same Day Permanent Teeth procedure?

The vast majority of our patients comfortably complete the procedure with IV conscious sedation. With IV sedation, patients are extremely comfortable and do not remember much of the procedure. If necessary, an anesthesiologist can provide general anesthesia in office for an additional fee if necessary.

How much do Same FIXED Permanent Teeth cost?

Many dental offices have separate surgery and restorative fees for the Same Day FIXED Teeth procedure. Some patients are even surprised when they receive another cost just for the final permanent teeth. At Fixed Dental, we believe in transparent, upfront pricing that includes EVERYTHING from start to finish. This includes any necessary dental extractions, simple bone grafting, initial FIXED teeth, AND final FIXED teeth. Same Day FIXED Teeth’s total cost for a single arch (upper OR lower) is $15,999. There is a minimal upgrade fee ($3,500 per arch) for Zirconia final FIXED teeth which comes with a LIFETIME ZIRCONIA GUARANTEE.

Do I need zirconia teeth for my final permanent teeth?

Zirconia is a ceramic material that is both strong and esthetic. Typically, it is recommended to have one or both arches in Zirconia because of its decreased long term maintenance. Zirconia is much less likely to break, chip, and wear over time. Everyone’s situation, so we would be happy to discuss what material might be best for you at your free consultation.

Will my dental insurance help cover my Same Day Permanent Teeth procedure?

Most dental insurances cover a portion of the Same Day FIXED Teeth procedure. Every insurance policy is different, but our insurance experts at Fixed Dental will help maximize your benefits. Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts can help you pay for your treatment. Additionally, we also offer third party finance options and payment plans. Unlike the corporate chain offices, you’re not treated like a number and don’t have to worry about seeing a different doctor each appointment. The same doctor and team will take care of you from start to finish. Every step of the way, you will be treated like family.

At Fixed Dental, we take pride in being privately owned and focused on patient satisfaction rather than hitting monthly quotas, cost cutting, and pleasing shareholders.

What makes Fixed Dental different from other dental offices that offer a wide range of services?

Fixed Dental focuses almost exclusively on dental implants and tooth replacement options. Our on-site dental laboratory and dental laboratory technicians allow us to keep the quality of our products high while reducing costs. We pass those savings to our patients.

Many dental offices that focus on a wide range of services will refer you to see multiple doctors, have confusing pricing, and outsource to third party dental laboratories. This can lead to significantly increased treatment times (sometimes years) and costs that are 50-75% more for the same service.

Will there be pain after the Same Day FIXED Teeth procedure?

While some discomfort can be expected after any dental procedure, many patients with existing tooth pain and dental infections feel much better after the procedure and the infection is gone. Any discomfort typically subsides within the first three days. Your doctor will prescribe medications based on your medical history that can help minimize discomfort and swelling.

How long will I need to be off of work after the Same Day FIXED Teeth procedure?

Recovery times vary from person to person. Some patients recover comfortably over a weekend, and some are more comfortable with a week of recovery time. Most of our patients report the night of surgery being the most uncomfortable, if at all. Any swelling will peak around 2-3 days and then start to subside. Getting used to your new teeth is quicker with the Same Day FIXED Teeth procedure because they are rigidly attached to the implants from day one.

Will I know how to speak with Same Day FIXED Teeth immediately?

Most patients don’t notice significant changes or differences in their new teeth. However, there may be a slight adjustment period for some patients. This can be expected with any dental procedure that changes the position of your teeth. Practicing speaking is the best way to speed up the adjustment process. Speaking or reading out loud is the most effective way to adjust to your new teeth. Start slow, and then work your way up to normal conversation speed.

What if I want to make changes to the way my 'Same Day FIXED Teeth' look?

We make every effort to ensure you are happy with how your initial permanent teeth look. If you want to make changes (size, shape, color, or position), we can easily make those changes in your final permanent teeth.

Can I get food stuck under my Same Day FIXED Teeth?

While getting a small amount of food under the teeth is possible, it can easily be cleaned out with a WaterPik (or other water flosser), Super Floss (threaded floss), or interdental brushes. During healing, you might notice an increase in the space between the initial permanent teeth and the gums. This could allow for more food trapping. Don’t worry, this is normal and will be addressed when the final permanent teeth are made to the healed gums.

(This is one of the many reasons you should avoid any offices offering same day or next day final zirconia teeth. )

How do I take care of my Same Day FIXED Teeth?

For the first 3 weeks after getting your new teeth, only brushing the “tooth” part of the initial FIXED teeth and not your gums is recommended. You can gently swish twice a day with a prescription mouthwash that will keep the gums clean. After three weeks, you can gently brush all surfaces of your new teeth. This is also the time to use a water flosser (such as a Waterpik®) on the lowest setting. You should do this multiple times a day, especially after eating. You can increase the strength by “1” each week until you reach a setting that adequately cleans under the teeth and does not cause discomfort. Alternatively, you can use floss threaders (such as Super Floss®) or proxy brushes to clean under the teeth when you cannot access a water flosser.

Can Same Day FIXED Teeth dental implants fail?

Dental implants have a very high success rate of 95-98%. If a dental implant fails to integrate with the jawbone, it usually happens during the healing phase and can be replaced during the healing phase. Uncontrolled diabetes, poor oral hygiene, smoking, and certain medications can decrease success rates with dental implants.

Do I still need regular dental visits after having the Same Day FIXED Teeth procedure?

Yes! It is important to have your new teeth maintained much like natural teeth. Dental implants don’t get cavities, but they can develop gum disease and potentially bone disease. Good home care and regular dental visits help reduce your chances of developing gum and bone disease. For most patients, we recommend 1-2 cleanings a year. At one of these appointments, we recommend having the teeth removed and professionally cleaned along with your dental implants.

Are the dentists treating me specialists?

Our dentists have extensive, specialized training. Christopher Kimmel DDS, MAAIP, FICOI is a general dentist who has dedicated his training to the study of dental implants and dental implant prosthetics. Frequently Asked Questions - Snap-In Dentures

What are Snap in Dentures?

Snap in Dentures use dental implants to provide a more stable and comfortable fit compared to traditional dentures. Snap in Dentures are removable but are much more stable than traditional dentures and don’t require messy denture adhesive or glue.

Over time, wearing traditional dentures can lead to the loss of natural jawbone. The dental implants used in Snap in Dentures help stimulate and retain your natural jawbone. With Snap in Dentures you will be much more confident in speaking, smiling, and eating compared to traditional dentures.

Other names commonly used for Snap In Dentures include: Implant Overdentures, Dental Implant Dentures, and Semi Permanent Teeth.

Is it really possible to have teeth extracted, dental implants placed, and immediate dentures delivered in one day?

In most cases, yes. Most of our patients have one or both arches of teeth removed, dental implants placed, and immediate dentures placed all in the same day. The ability to do this shortens treatment time and the amount of surgical procedures needed.

How long does the Snap in Denture process take from start to finish?

After any remaining teeth are removed, dental implants are placed into the jawbone, and immediate healing dentures are placed so that you don’t have to go without teeth. Over the next 6 months, your dental implants will heal and integrate into the jawbone under the gums.

During this time you will receive a series of denture soft liners to keep your dentures as comfortable and snug as possible. After the healing process is complete, your doctor will place the attachments on your implants and make your final Snap in Denture.

I’ve been wearing dentures for years, can I still get Snap In Dentures and dental implants?

Yes! Many patients who have been wearing dentures for years have been successfully treated with Snap In Dentures. At your free consultation, we will assess your jawbones with state of the art 3D Scan technology to determine if you are a candidate and discuss your treatment options.

How many dental implants do I need for upper Snap in Dentures?

For the upper jaw, a minimum of 4 dental implants have to be placed. The palate (roof of the mouth) part of the denture can be significantly reduced or removed after attachment to the dental implants. This improves the ability to taste foods, speak, and reduce gagging.

How many implants do I need for lower Snap In Dentures?

For the lower jaw, a minimum of 2 dental implants have to be placed. 4 dental implants provide even more stability and hold to a lower denture. There is a significant increase of lower denture satisfaction with dental implants.

Are the dental implants attached to the denture the same day they are placed for Snap in Dentures?

Dental implants placed for Snap in Dentures need to heal for 4-6 months before they can be attached to the denture. During this time, the dental implants are healing under the gums so that a healing denture can be worn without disturbing the healing process.  If a more immediate dental implant solution is needed, Same Day FIXED Teeth should be considered.

Are Snap in Dentures removable?

Yes. Although Snap in Dentures are removable, they are more secure than traditional dentures. The ability to remove them makes it very easy and convenient to clean your dentures, implants, and gums.

Can Snap in Dentures still have some movement?

The dental implants significantly reduce movement of the dentures but it is possible to still have slight movement of the dentures. This varies person to person and the shape of the mouth. Generally, the more dental implants, the more stable the dentures are.

Can I taste my foods better with Snap in Dentures?

Yes! Most patients with 4 implants on the upper arch are able to remove or significantly reduce the palate (roof of the mouth) portion of the denture. This allows you to taste foods much better compared to traditional dentures and gives you a more natural experience. For patients who have a severe gag reflex, removing the palate will help provide immediate relief.

Do Snap in Dentures look real?

Yes, every denture we make is custom made to each patient’s mouth and face. Dr. Kimmel will take records of your mouth and work hand in hand with our in house dental lab and Dental Lab Technician to ensure you get the best results and smile you have always dreamed of.

Do you use mini dental implants for Snap In Dentures?

No, we use full size dental implants which are stronger and have more longevity and higher success rates compared to mini dental implants.

Can I be put to sleep for the Snap in Denture procedure?

The majority of our patients are comfortably treated with oral sedation or IV moderate conscious sedation. If desired, an anesthesiologist can be brought in for the procedure for an additional fee.

Do you use my immediate healing denture as the final denture?

No. Unlike some other dental offices, we make a new final denture when the dental implants are ready to be attached. This gives you a brand new, best fitted, and long lasting denture made just for your mouth and dental implants. If any changes are desired, they can be made at this time.

How much do Snap in Dentures cost?

We have transparent, package pricing for Snap in Dentures which includes all dental implants, abutments, snaps, and a denture for one low price. If dental extractions are needed, a custom treatment plan will be made at your free consultation. Click here to see our Snap in Denture prices.

Will my dental insurance help cover my Snap in Denture procedure?

Dental insurances may cover a portion for the Snap In Denture procedure. Our insurance specialists can help maximize your insurance benefits and help you navigate your personal plan at the free consultation. Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) can also help you pay for your treatment. We also offer third party finance options and payment plans.

Will there be pain after the Snap in Dentures procedure?

While some soreness can be expected after any dental procedure, most of our patients report minor discomfort after the procedure. Your doctor will prescribe you medications based on your medical history, to help alleviate swelling and discomfort.

How long will I need to be off of work after the Snap in Dentures procedure?

Time off varies from person to person. Some patients return to work the very next day while others need a week off. Since some swelling and discomfort is expected as well as getting used to your new teeth, the longer you can take off the better.

Will I know how to speak with Snap in Dentures immediately?

Because the dentures are not attached to the dental implants the day they are placed, it can take time to get used to something new in your mouth. This is particularly true for the first few days as your body is still healing. Getting used to your new teeth may require some practice and patience. The more you practice, the faster you’ll get the hang of it.

Practicing speaking or reading out loud is the most effective way to adjust to your new teeth. Start slow and work your way up to normal conversation speed. After attaching the dental implants to the final denture, the denture is significantly more secure, making speech much easier.

What if I want to make changes to the way my Snap in Dentures look?

We make every effort to make sure you are happy with the way your healing dentures look. If you would like to make changes, we are happy to fully customize the way your final Snap in Dentures look.

Can I get food stuck under my Snap in Dentures?

While it is possible to get a small amount of food under any denture, Snap in Dentures greatly reduced this by keeping the denture from moving while eating. A benefit of Snap in Dentures is that they can be removed, cleaned, and snapped back in.

What is a soft liner?

A soft liner is a custom fitted cushion that is molded to your gums and fills the “gum” side of an immediate denture. This fills any spaces that have developed between the denture and the gums from healing while also providing comfort to the gums. The first soft liner is placed 2 weeks after surgery so that initial healing can take place and any sutures can dissolve. The soft liner is changed every 2 months until healing is complete and the dental implants are ready to be attached to the dentures.

How do I take care of my Snap in Dentures?

Snap in Dentures are very easy to take care of because they can be removed. A soft bristle toothbrush and non abrasive cleaner can be used to clean the Snap in Dentures. With the denture out, it is easy to brush the dental implants with a soft bristle toothbrush and non abrasive toothpaste.

How often do I need to replace the denture snaps (inserts)?

With repeated use and snapping in and out of the dentures, the strength of the snaps (the replaceable part in the denture) will wear out over time. This will result in a weaker snap and perceived looseness of the denture. It is recommended having them replaced every 6 months to a year. This process is very simple, affordable, and can be completed in a single short visit. CAUTION: Please do not bite your dentures into place, as this will cause your inserts and snap in to wear much faster. Be sure to place and snap your Dentures in with your hands.

Can Snap in Denture implants fail?

Dental implants have a very high success rate of about 98%. If a dental implant fails to integrate into the jawbone, it usually happens during the 6 month healing phase and can be replaced. Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, and certain medications can decrease dental implant success rates.

Do I still need regular dental visits after having Snap in Dentures?

Yes! Cleanings, just like with natural teeth, are needed periodically to ensure your implants remain healthy. While dental implants do not get cavities, they can still get gum disease which can lead to bone loss around dental implants. Even though the dental implants stimulate the bone to prevent bone loss, your mouth can still change slowly over time. This is why your dentures will need to be relined periodically to ensure optimal fit and function and prevent unnecessary stress to your implants. The denture snaps will need to be changed every 6 months to a year on average. This process is very simple, affordable, and can be completed in a single short visit.
