Replacement Denture Process

What is the snap in denture process?
For patients who have no teeth or already have dentures, replacement dentures replace all of the teeth in one or both jaws.

  • It All Starts With A Consultation – Our highly trained dentist will examine your mouth, review your medical history, and discuss your treatment options with you. We will answer any questions you might have and customize a treatment plan just for you.
  • Records – Molds and other records of your mouth will be made so that we can begin making your new teeth customized to your mouth.
  • In house dental laboratory – Your dentist and our Lab Technician will work together to design your new smile so that it not only looks great but functions well. This is completed in our in-office dental lab so that your teeth never have to leave our office. In many dental offices, dentures are made at third party dental labs which can lead to greatly increased treatment times and costs.
  • Try-in – You will have an opportunity to preview how the teeth look when they are set in wax. This allows you and your doctor to verify the teeth are in the correct position and that they are coming together correctly before finalizing the denture.
  • Delivery – After your denture is finished, we will make any necessary adjustments to gum side of the denture to remove any areas that could potentially cause discomfort and provide the best fit possible.
  • Adjustments – It is not uncommon to need one or a few post-delivery adjustments particularly without dental implants. Everyone’s mouth is different, and some people will need more than others. You might notice an area becomes sore after you start to eat certain foods. We will make any necessary adjustments to your new dentures for 6 months. We ask that you call and make an appointment for any necessary adjustments so that we can reserve an adequate amount of time just for you.

Immediate Traditional Denture Process

For patients who still have teeth, dentures replace all of the teeth in one or both jaws during healing from tooth extractions.

  • It All Starts With A Consultation – One of our highly trained dentists will examine your mouth, review your medical history, and discuss your treatment options with you. We will answer any questions you might have and customize a treatment plan just for you.
  • Impressions – Molds and other records of your mouth will be taken so that we can begin customizing a new smile just for you!
  • Day of the Procedure – After any remaining teeth are removed, your immediate dentures will be inserted and adjusted to provide the best fit possible at that time. Your gums will undergo many changes particularly over the next few weeks and we will make adjustments along the way to provide improved comfort.
  • Post op – Your dentist will see you again, typically the day after your procedure to examine your mouth and make any needed adjustments. Any questions you might have will be answered.
  • Fixed Comfort Package – Your gums and jawbone will undergo changes after tooth extractions. Most of these changes happen over the first 6 months but particularly over the first two weeks as the initial gum healing takes place. A series of soft liners will be placed in your dentures as you heal to provide optimum comfort and fit as these changes take place. The first soft liner is placed 2 weeks after tooth extraction to allow any gum swelling to subside and any dissolvable sutures to come out.
  • Final Dentures – After 6 months of healing, a brand new set of final dentures will be made to your healed gums and jawbone. This two step process allows us to customize any changes you want to make from your immediate dentures while also giving you a more long term, stable fit. It is not uncommon to need one or a few post-delivery adjustments particularly without dental implants.

Advantages of Traditional Dentures

  • Never go without teeth – The biggest advantage of dentures is that they replace your missing teeth so you can smile again.
  • ‍Improve looks – Traditional dentures fit over your gums and provide support to your lips and the muscles of your face. This can give you a more youthful look compared to not having dentures or wearing old dentures.
